BARBERRY / ZERESHK BERRY

Also Known as ‘Common barberry, European barberry’
Barberries (Zereshk Berry) are dried small oblong bright red berries of the evergreen
thorny Berberis shrub, found throughout temperate and subtropical regions
of the world.
These common barberry varieties are known for their unique tart and tangy flavor
with hints of sweetness.
Suggested Uses:
Widely used in Middle Eastern cuisine. It adds tanginess to Persian, Iranian & Afgani soups, rice dishes, stuffing and meat dishes. Also used in desserts, sweet dishes including
jams and condiments. They can also be used as a garnish.
To prepare, simply rinse the berries and soak them in water for 10-15 minutes. Then, drain
the water and use the berries in your desired dish, or can also be used as a garnish.
Health Benefits:
Zereshk or Barberry has the highest antioxidants, and antibacterial and anti fungal
abilities. Barberries contain the alkaloid berberine, which can cause adverse
effects in large amounts
