JUNIPER BERRY
(Juniperus communis)
Juniper berry is not a true berry but a female seed cone of the evergreen juniper shrub with
small bluish-purple berry-like appearance. Juniper berries are tart and sharp, resinous,
intensely spicy with a slight touch of pine flavor and hints of citrus.
Best known as the flavoring for gin and other liqueurs.
Use whole or crush, chop or grind them to release and enhance flavor.
Suggested Uses:
Blend well with other herbs and spices. Add to marinades, casseroles, meat stews, and sauces. Often used with roasts, especially wild & game birds. Also used in sweet dishes.
