Blue/Black
Poppy Seed
(Papaver Somniferum vr. nigram)
Blue / Black Poppy Seeds are tiny slate-blue colored seeds, harvested from the seed pods of opium poppy or bread seed poppy flower. After the seed pods are ripe and dried, seeds are collected, washed and processed. The seeds have sweet and rich nutty flavor, and
the flavors are enhanced by dry roasting the seeds. The seeds are used whole or
ground into meal as an ingredient in baking and pastries.
Suggested Uses:
Soaking seeds in water before cooking or baking, softens them to make easier to handle.
Grind poppy seeds in a coffee grinder by lightly toasting them. A luscious poppy seed filling is made with ground poppy seeds. Poppy seeds add flavor and texture to breads,
biscuits, cookies, bagels, muffins, cakes, rolls, cookies, pastries and other baked goods. Poppy seeds are often sprinkled or added to potato, pasta, salad dressing, cream and cheese dishes, sauces for meat, fish, vegetables and noodles.
Health Benefits:
They are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and are a good source of carbohydrate energy, which could help improve energy levels in the human body.
