Japanese Glutinous Rice
Mochi Rice is a short grain glutinous rice, has mild & sweet flavor. When cooked, rice becomes very sticky and soft, used to make Mochi, Japanese rice cake.
Also ideal for sweet and savory dishes, including confections, crackers, rice balls, rice molds, sushi rolls, or soups, and also sweet rice pudding.
Cooking Instructions for plain rice:
- In a sauce pan add 1 1/2 cups of water/ Cup of washed & rinsed rice.
- Stir lightly, bring to a rolling boil, lower the heat, cover with lid and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Turn off the heat, let the rice steamed in the covered pot at least another 10-15 minutes or until the rice has absorbed the liquid.
- Cooked rice is then pounded to make Mochi
One cup of rice will yield: 3 cups of cooked rice.
