Samba Rice
Samba rice is the traditional rice grown extensively in Sri Lanka and Southern India. This a small and oval shaped rice cooks up less fluffy, and makes up for a more filling dish. It has a very distinct acquired taste & flavor, preferred by most Srilankans.
Cooking Instructions for plain rice:
- In a large sauce pan add 1 3/4cups of water with 1Cup of washed & rinsed rice, add 1/3 tsp salt (optional)
- Stir lightly, bring to a rolling boil, lower the heat, cover with lid and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Turn off the heat, let the rice steamed in the covered pot at least another 5 minutes or until the rice has absorbs all the liquid.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
1 Cup of Rice will yield: 3 cups of cooked rice.
