It is dried, milled and roasted soybean flour, golden tan in color and has a powdery texture, used mostly in Japanese condiment. It has a warm, toasted aroma, and the taste is very similar to sweet peanuts.
Can be sprinkled on anything, imparts a wonderful tan color and nutty finish to foods. Usually added to coat rice cake or sprinkle on to kinako, mochi, fruit salads or even to French toast.
It is common to mix with a pinch of sugar (1tbsp sugar per cup of flour), or omitting the sugar altogether.
