Stevia is a sweet leaf of the herbal Bertoni plant, native to Paragua and Brazil. It is known for its natural sweetness, has low-glycemic index, zero calories and delightful taste.
The leaves contain chemicals called ‘steviol glycosides’, a glycoside, that have a highly concentrated sweet flavor (30-40 times sweeter than sugar) and has very little bitter after taste.
It is green in appearance and is not completely water soluble. Used as an alternative sweetener for many soft drinks and baked goods.
1/8 tsp. of stevia leaf powder is equal to 1 tsp. of granulated sugar.
