Arenga Rainforest Sugar
AKA ‘Gula Semut Aren, Black Sugar Palm’
Arenga Sugar is harvested from Sugar Palm tree (Arenga Pinnata), in the rainforest of Indonesia. Arenga fruits are different from coconut palm.
Farmers harvest the sap from the trunks then they make sap heated until it concentrate. Once cooled, the concentrate hardens and is crushed into creamy, dark-brown sugar granules.
Arenga forest sugar is mineral rich natural sweetener, has a unique fruity aroma and sweeter taste with notes of caramel and is a healthier alternative to cane sugar.
Use this sweetener in ice coffee, chocolate, ginger tea, or as a sugar substitute in baking and desserts. Mostly used in Indonesian traditional delicacies like cendol, putu, rujak etc
