Chestnut leaves are used as a remedy for coughs and respiratory disorders. It constricts the mucous membranes and slows down racking coughs, cure bronchitis, whooping cough, as well as blockage of the bronchial passage. Also used for stiff joints or muscles and lower back pain. To make tea: A decoction made of 1 or 2 tsp of the dried leaf in a cup of boiled water left to simmer for 5-10 min. and used tropically to reduce inflammation and pain. Warming: The seeds, leaves and flowers of the horse chestnut should never be eaten; they contain esculin, which is poisonous and can increase the risk of bleeding.
