Masoor Whole is a small unshelled lentils with a brown seed coat and an orange-red cotyledon (masoor dal), widely grown in India. It has an earthly flavor, easy to digest and is very palatable.
Masoor whole is nutritionally mighty and a very good source of cholesterol lowering dietary fiber.
When cooked, have a wonderful creamy texture, usually made as a slightly thick curry.
Basic Cooking Instruction: Carefully sort, wash and rinse. Add 5cups of water/ cup of dal, bring to boil. Lower the heat, simmer 50-60min. or until tender & soft (add more water as needed). Whisk lightly, remove the floating foam. Flavor with butter or oil, salt to taste and dal masala seasoning if desired. Cook uncovered over low heat until desired consistency.
Serve warm with steamed basmati rice, flat bread and choice of any veggie.
