Piri piri, is one of the sources of chili pepper used in the Portuguese, to describe the African bird's-eye chili that grows wild for centuries and domesticated in Portugal and Mozambique. Portuguese explorers in southern Africa were introduced to this fiery chili pepper, for which the Swahili word is “pili-pili/ “peri-peri means pepper-pepper.
