A gyro or gyros is a Greek dish made of ground meat, cook in the oven as a meatloaf. This meatloaf is sliced in thick chunks of meat, is being served traditionally with Tzaziki sauce, chopped onion, tomatoes and feta cheese and wrapped in a flatbread or Greek pocket less pita.
Ingredients Garlic, Red chili powder, Oregano, Marjoram, Rosemary, Thyme, Onion, Black Pepper, Coriander, Cumin.
Recipe for gyro: Mix well 2lb ground beef or ground lamb with add 3tbsp Gyro mix and salt to taste, cover, and refrigerate 1 to 2 hours to allow the flavors to blend. Preheat oven to 325°F (165° C). Place the meat mixture into a loaf pan, making sure to press into the sides of the pan. Place the loaf pan into a water bath, bake until the mixture reaches 165-170 °F (45-60 min.) Remove from the oven and drain off any fat. Place the loaf pan on a cooling rack and allow to sit for 15 to 20 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 175 °F. Slice and serve on pocket less pita bread with chopped onion, tomatoes and feta cheese and drizzle with tzatziki sauce.
