Alkanet Root is the source of an organic red dye, used as a natural, oil-soluble colorant for cosmetics, foods, and textiles. Traditionally used topically for the treatment to soothe skin irritation, treat burns, and aid in healing wounds.*
 In India, known as 'Ratan Jot', occasionally used in Kashmiri dish called ‘Rogan Josh’ and 
‘Mirchwangan Korma’ for its pleasing red color. *

To make Oil: Infuse 1tbsp root in ¼ cup of oil. Shake or stir daily for a few days, then strain out the root. *
