Asafoetida (Hing) is the dried latex extruded from the rhizome or tap root of several species of Ferula. Has a pungent, unpleasant (sulfurous) smell when raw, but in cooked dishes, it delivers a smooth flavor.
Add a few pinches, usually in hot oil before using. Used in many vegetarian and lentil dishes to add both flavor and aroma, as well as to reduce flatulence. Ingredients: Rice Flour (60%), Gum Arabic, Asafoetida (15%), Turmeric as coloring agent.
