Asafoetida(Hing) Powder
with Wheat Flour
(Ferula assafoetida)
Asafoetida is dried sap (gum resin) harvested from the root of a giant fennel plant,
a species of Ferula. It grows wild in Afganistan. Known for its strong, pungent odor
(it’s sometimes referred to as 'stinking gum') which is due to its high concentration of sulfur compounds.
The odor dissipates upon cooking and adds a smooth garlic/onion like flavor.
Ingredients: Wheat Flour (to prevent caking)(60%), Asafoetida (15%), Gum Arabic (stabilizer).
Suggested Uses:
It is a standard component in many Indian vegetarian and lentil dishes and in
soups as a flavor enhancer.
Suggested Direction to Use:
Take a pinch or two and fry it in ghee or oil for a few seconds to mellow the flavor and
scent before adding it to your dishes.
Health Benefits: Asafoetida is rich in antioxidants and may provide multiple
health benefits. Asafoetida help boost digestion by increasing the activity of digestive enzymes.
