Description
BHT is a lab-made crystalline powder, used as an antioxidant food preservatives, to prevent fats and oils in foods from oxidizing and becoming rancid, and as a defoaming agent for yeast. It also stabilizes fats, retain food smell, color and flavor, and extend the shelf life.
It is safe to use as a food additive up to concentrations of .02% of the fat or oil content of food. FDA approves of adding 1/4 tsp to 1 gallon of oil.
