Calcium acetate is calcium salt of acetic acid. As a food additive used as a nutrient, buffering agent, stabilizing or firming agent, leavening agent and to inhibit the growth of many bacteria and molds.
Commonly used in candy and bakery products.
Calcium acetate is in a class of medications called phosphate binders. Taken by people with kidney disease, and who are on dialysis retaining too much phosphate. *
