Dextrose is the monohydrate form of D-glucose, derived from corn. It is about 20% less sweet than table sugar( sucrose).
Dextrose is often used in foods as an artificial sweetener or a preservative for beverages, sauces, energy drinks and recipes.
Used to neutralize food that is too spicy or salty, helps baking product brown more easily. Used to prime beer to produce natural carbonation in the bottle. Used to preserve packaged foods and extend their shelf life.
Dextrose has a high Glycemic index, and is a good source of energy.
