AKA ‘Dhania Jeera Powder, Dhanajiru / Dhana jeeru’
Dhana jeera is a fragrant spice mix of coriander-cumin powder (4:1ratio), an
essential / basic spice powder, widely used in Gujarat and Maharashtra state of India.
Cumin gives it an earthy, toasty, bitter-sweet flavor, and coriander balances that with a
mild-sweet, citrusy, floral fragrance. Generally it is dry roasted to enhance
It is used to make almost all curry dishes, vegetable dishes or to flavor variety of dishes
including soups, beans, chaats, daal and kadhi. Also can be used as base of spice blend
including Curry powder or Garam Masala.
May add pinch of turmeric and chili powder to make a basic curry dish. It can also be used to thicken the curries & gravies.
May be used to make Chat-Masala by mixing with salt, chili powder and Amchur powder.
