A Classic South Indian spice blend to make “Sambar”, a South Indian specialty & versatile ‘Vegetable Lentil Soup dish’. Sambar is made with lentils and mixed vegetables and is a must accompanied for South Indian breakfast and lunch recipes like Idli, Dosa, Vada, Uupma, Steamed Tice or with any South Indian Snacks.
Ingredients: Coriander, Cumin, Mustard Powder, Fenugreek, Red Chili Pepper, Amchoor (Dry Mango), Asafoetida (Hing).
Simple Recipe to prepare ‘Sambar’ dish: Cook 1 cup ‘Toor Dal’ in 3 cups of water, until soft, keep aside. In another pan cook 2 cups Tamarind Juice, 1 cup chopped & steamed /cooked vegetables. Add 2tbsp ‘Sambar Powder’, 1tbsp grated coconut, 1tsp jaggary (Opt), salt to taste. Bring to boil. Add cooked dal, stir, simmer for 10 minutes, add few pieces of sautéed fresh Curry Leaves, keep covered for 5-10 minutes, Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
