Val Dal is the dried Indian ‘Lablab beans’ or ‘Valore bean’. When cooked it has a starchy and buttery texture with a mild nutty flavor and hold a good consistency.
Basic Cooking Instruction:
Wash, rinse, soak 5-6 hrs & drain. Put in warm water for 10 minutes and the skin is removed. Add 3 cups of water/ cup of skinned bean, bring to boil. Lower the heat, simmer 50-60 mins or until tender & soft (add more water as needed). Whisk lightly, remove the floating foam. Flavor with butter or oil, salt to taste and dal masala seasoning if desired. Cook uncovered over low heat until desired consistency. Serve warm with steamed basmati rice, flat bread and choice of any veggie.
